Welcome to The Best Of Blogs ‘07’, the only online awards site that strives to turn the spotlight on the lesser-known blogger. First off can you believe it’s already been a year since we last got together? It seems just like yesterday we were combing through the 2,700+ nominations in an attempt to pick the best of the rest.  Secondly, for those of you who may not have heard of The Best Of Blog awards (or The BoBs as we like to call them) let me take a moment to break down just what we are all about.

Basically, we are setting out to help the little blogger get some recognition in the blogosphere. Over the past few years we have continued to see A-list bloggers rise in popularity all the while many great writers have not gotten the attention they deserved. That’s why we’ve decided to help the lesser-known blogger get the recognition they deserve.  The blogosphere thrives on diversity and what better way to show that than by showcasing the best of the rest. Starting today and stretching over the course of the next two months we will begin taking nominations, selecting the best of the bunch, and then giving you the reader a chance to weigh in on just who exactly is the best in all 23 categories. With more and more sponsors joining up each week the 2007 crop of winners and nominees are in for some excellent prizes, which will be announced as we make our way to the May 5th finish line. So instead of going on any further about what a great opportunity this is for the smaller sized blogger, let’s talk about how things will work this year and then ON WITH THE NOMINATIONS!

  • The BoB Awards are open for nominations beginning on March 3rd 2008 and will last until March 23rd, 2008.

  • Any blogger or blog reader may nominate a blog by going to the appropriate category on each nomination page and leaving the URL to the blog as a comment. Only blogs receiving less than 250 original visits a week are allowed to be nominated.

  • In order to nominate your favorite blog simply click on the category located on the sidebar to the right that best represents the site and leave us a comment with the name of the URL you would like to nominate

  • This year’s categories are as follows:

    • Education/Home schooling

    • Food, Wine, and Cooking

    • Health and Fitness

    • Hobby

    • Inspirational

    • LGBT

    • Music

    • Best New Blog

    • Best Mommy Blog

    • Best Daddy Blog

    • Best Podcast/Video

    • Sex

    • Sports

    • Funniest Blog

    • Pop Culture

    • How To/DIY

    • Travel/Leisure

    • Pet Blog

    • Pop Culture

    • Environmental

    • Gadget/Electronic

    • How To/DIY


  • After March 23rd, the panelists assigned to each specific category will weed through the nominations and pick what they think are the 10 most deserving blogs in that category. Panelist decisions will be based first on blog content and second on user-friendliness; a blogs visual design will only be a minor consideration.

  • On April 7th we will publish the finalists, and provide a form for voting online.

  • The fans will then vote on a their favorite in each category.  100% of the popular vote will be used to pick the winner.

  • All winners will be announced on May 5th, 2008.

  • The Bob Awards panelists will contact all winners within 24 hours of the official announcement. Winners have seven (7) days to respond in order to claim their prize. If the winner does not claim his or her prize, the panelists will reward it to the runner-up.

Rules and Exclusions

  • Please nominate personal blogs only. Political blogs, technical blogs, and marketing blogs are excluded from this competition. (“Political” blog here means a blog devoted almost exclusively to politics, where 50% or more of the entries are politically oriented.)

  • Nominating your own blog is allowed this year!!

  • Remember! Only blogs receiving less than 250 original visits a week are allowed to be nominated.

  • Panelists are excluded from the BoB Awards. Please do not nominate a blog belonging to one of our panelists

  • Consider casting nominations for lesser-known blogs, instead of offering “obvious” picks. While we do not wish to hold a blog’s popularity against it, we also want to keep the focus of this contest on blogs that could benefit from additional traffic.

  7. Best New Blog – I came across Impulsive Outpourings, and I like the author’s style of writing about even the most mundane happenings in her life. While mostly her blogs are detailed sketches of the happenings in the start-up that she works in, she has started off on a recent rant about being incapacitated with a ligament tear.
