Nominate Your Blog For A Best Of Blog Award

March 10, 2008 – 5:20 am

Like the Internet we make our home in, the BoB awards are constantly changing to fit the needs of those smaller bloggers we make it our duty to bring to the forefront each and every year. Whether it means adding or subtracting categories, changing up the maximum number of hits a site can receive in order to be nominated, or including security features into the system that help keep the awards fair and honest. Each year we search through the previous year’s rules and try to figure out what worked versus what needs to be improved on. This year one major change came in the form of just who can nominate who.

In the past in order for your site to be considered for a BoB, it had to have been nominated by someone other than yourself. Part of the thought process behind this was that if your site was really a noteworthy yet unappreciated blog than one of your faithful readers would nominate you simply to show their appreciation. This has worked great for us over the years and in fact it’s not uncommon for the Best Of Blog awards to receive over 3,000 nominations by the time the process is over with. That being said we felt that in order for us to truly represent the unknown blogger we had to think like one. Let’s say you have a blog that nobody reads. Your site is the coolest, your grammar is top notch, and you hit all the best Google search terms…..but your traffic is non-existent.  You know that the BoBs could bring some much needed traffic your way, but how are you going to count on one the 100 people that visit your site to nominate you when you are doing good to get their attention to start with? The answer is you don’t have to worry about this any longer.

As part of our continuing efforts to make the Best Of Blog awards the best that they can be, we are now allowing bloggers to nominate their own sites. That’s right!! As long as your site gets less than 250 hits a week than you are free and clear to nominate your site under the category that best fits. This means you get the recognition you deserve and we will have to work that much harder sorting through the increased amount of nominations. Plus since we’ve extended the nominations out so that they last a full month, there’s no reason your site can’t be nominated for a Best Of Blog award.

  14. Hi there, I’m a new blogger (started the blog 12/25/07). I’m just starting to get traffic, but have less than 250 hits a week.

I blog about religion’s (somewhat negative) influence on culture and politics. Also have a lot of personal stuff in there though about my upbringing in Ted Haggard’s church, as well as my young son’s spinal cord cancer.

Here’s to self-promotion…thanks for the new rule :).

Nothing earth-shattering. Just bits from my life with my adopted teenage son and our rickety old beagle, Barney.

If you don’t like me as a Daddy Blog, maybe you can place me in the Adoptive blog category. I’m also an Orthodox Christian, so there’s plenty of “inspirational” posts.

  35. I just started my blog not too long ago, so I guess it could be nominated for “Best New Blog.” It doesn’t really fit into one particular category. I blog about whatever is on my mind at the time, but it usually gravitates more toward social satire. I need help directing people to my blog because I’m not really sure how to get readers.
